How do I get auto & truck parts recommended by ChatGPT and other AI assistants?

Publish fitment on the product page as year, make, model, engine and drivetrain, with submodel and position, in fields AI assistants can read. Many auto parts sellers already have ACES fitment data, but it never reaches the page in a readable form, so the assistant can't confirm the engine or submodel and recommends another listing.

What auto & truck buyers ask AI assistants

Cars, trucks and SUVs. Buyers ask about their own machine, and the assistant has to match your part to it. Typical questions:

To answer, the assistant needs fitment by year, make, model, engine, drivetrain. If your listing doesn't give it, the assistant says it can't confirm and moves on to a listing that does.

Before and after: the same part, two listings

The shopper asks

“Will these brake pads fit my 2019 F-150 with the 5.0L?”

How to get auto & truck parts recommended, step by step

  1. 1

Include engine and drivetrain, not just year, make and model

“2015–2020 F-150” isn't enough when the part differs by engine. List the engine (for example 5.0L V8) and drivetrain (2WD, 4WD) wherever fitment depends on them.

  2. 2

Move submodel and qualifier notes into fields

Notes like “except Raptor” or “with heavy-duty brakes” belong in qualifier fields next to the fitment row, not in a sentence in the description.

  3. 3

Publish your ACES data on the page

If you receive ACES fitment, render it as a visible fitment table and include it in Product JSON-LD. See ACES and PIES explained.

  4. 4

Add position, OEM and interchange numbers

Front or rear axle, left or right side, and the OEM and interchange numbers the part replaces.

  5. 5

Keep marketplace and site fitment in sync

Use the same fitment source for your store and marketplaces such as eBay Motors. See fixing eBay Motors compatibility.

  6. 6

Make sure AI crawlers can read the page

None of the above helps if the assistant can't fetch the page. Check robots.txt for AI search crawlers, your firewall or bot protection, noindex and nosnippet tags, and whether the fitment table only loads with JavaScript.

What the fitment should look like

Checklist: what an AI-ready auto & truck listing includes

Check your listings

Run one of your product pages through the free AI Readiness Check. It scores the page against the auto & truck template, lists each missing detail, and shows how an AI assistant answers a fitment question before and after the fixes. Frequently asked questions

I have ACES data. Why can't AI assistants confirm fitment?

ACES files feed catalogs and marketplaces, but an assistant answering a shopper reads your product page. If the page only says “fits 2015–2020 F-150”, the engine and submodel details in your ACES data never reach the assistant.

How much fitment detail should be on the page?

Enough to answer the shopper's question without guessing: year, make, model, and the engine, drivetrain, submodel or position wherever the part differs by them.

Will a long fitment table hurt the page?

Not if it's structured. A long, well-labelled table is what lets an assistant match a specific vehicle. Make sure it's in the page HTML, not loaded later by JavaScript.

What if my supplier data doesn't include engine or submodel fitment?

Request it from the supplier or manufacturer rather than inferring it. A guessed fitment claim is how wrong-fit returns start. The free AI Readiness Check only suggests fixes it can quote from your own data and marks everything else "Needs supplier data", which gives you a list to send your supplier.

Do I need ACES to sell auto parts online?

Not necessarily, but many retailers and marketplaces work with ACES-style fitment. Either way, the fitment needs to be complete and on the page.
